✈Cardinal Wings Aviation

Fly for a living

Train with us, or come and instruct with us, from the historic Bowman Field in Louisville.

✈

Cardinal Wings Aviation is a flight school, an aircraft management company and a helicopter operation, all running out of the historic Bowman Field. Two very different people end up on this page, and we would rather answer both properly than write something vague enough to cover everyone.

You want to become a professional pilot

You are starting from zero, or from a private license, and you want this to be the job. We take people the whole way: private, instrument, commercial and instructor ratings, flown around whatever else your life contains.

Many of our instructors trained here first. That route is open.

You already fly and you want to work here

You hold a commercial license, or a CFI, CFII or MEI, and you are looking for somewhere to instruct, build time or fly professionally. We are interested in fixed wing and rotorcraft.

We hire when the right person turns up, not only when a post is advertised.

What it is like to work here

✈

A real fleet, not a waiting list

Cessna 172s, Cirrus SR20s, and the Robinson R44 helicopter. Instructors here fly, rather than spending the week hoping an aircraft frees up.

✓

Fixed wing and rotorcraft under one roof

Not many operations run both. If you hold ratings on both sides, or want to add them, there is somewhere to use them here.

◎

The historic Bowman Field

A towered field minutes from downtown Louisville, and one of the oldest continually operating airfields in the country. Radio work is simply part of the day.

Students who stay

4.8 stars across 34 Google reviews. Good instructors are the reason for that, and it is the part of the business we protect hardest.

What we look for

Hours matter less than most people expect. What we actually care about:

  • You can explain things. Flying well and teaching well are different skills. The second one is rarer.
  • You are honest about weather. The willingness to cancel is worth more to us than the willingness to press on.
  • You like the students. Most people who walk in are nervous. How you handle that first hour decides whether they come back.
  • You want to be here a while. We know instructing builds hours toward something else, and we are not precious about it. We would just rather know where you are heading.
